116:9 I will walk before Yahweh in the land of the living.
116:10 I believed, therefore I said, “I was greatly afflicted.”
3 Что̀ возда́мъ гдⷭ҇еви ѡ҆ всѣ́хъ, ꙗ҆̀же воздаде́ ми;
116:11 I said in my haste, “All people are liars.”
116:12 What will I give to Yahweh for all his benefits toward me?
116:13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call on Yahweh’s name.
116:14 I will pay my vows to Yahweh, yes, in the presence of all his people.
116:15 Precious in Yahweh’s sight is the death of his saints.
116:16 Oh Jehová, que yo soy tu siervo, yo tu siervo, hijo de tu sierva: rompiste mis prisiones.
116:16 Yahweh, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your servant girl. You have freed me from my chains.
116:17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on Yahweh’s name.
Aleluya.
116:18 I will pay my vows to Yahweh, yes, in the presence of all his people, 116:19 in the courts of Yahweh’s house, in the middle of you, Jerusalem. Praise Yah!

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations). Verse numbers below follow the Hebrew/English numbering: 116.

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

The river Jordan, when they were entering across it into the land of promise, when touched by the feet of the priests who bore the Ark, stood still from above with bridled stream, while it flowed down from below, where it ran on into the sea, until the whole people passed over, the priests standing on the dry ground.
