2 Alegraréme y regocijaréme en ti: cantaré á tu nombre, oh Altísimo;
10 И будет Господь прибежищем угнетенному, прибежищем во времена скорби;
13 Ten misericordia de mí, Jehová: mira mi aflicción [que padezco] de los que me aborrecen, tú que me levantas de las puertas de la muerte;
26 Во всякое время пути его гибельны; суды Твои далеки для него; на всех врагов своих он смотрит с пренебрежением;
27 говорит в сердце своем: "не поколеблюсь; в род и род не приключится мне зла";
28 уста его полны проклятия, коварства и лжи; под языком - его мучение и пагуба;
29 сидит в засаде за двором, в потаенных местах убивает невинного; глаза его подсматривают за бедным;
30 подстерегает в потаенном месте, как лев в логовище; подстерегает в засаде, чтобы схватить бедного; хватает бедного, увлекая в сети свои;
31 сгибается, прилегает, - и бедные падают в сильные когти его;
10:17 El deseo de los humildes oíste, oh Jehová: tú dispones su corazón, y haces atento tu oído;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations). Verse numbers below follow the Hebrew/English numbering: 9, 10.

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm IX)

    The inscription of this Psalm is, "To the end for the hidden things of the Son, a Psalm of David himself." As to the hidden things of the Son there may be a question: but since he has not added whose, the very only-begotten Son of God should be understood.

  3. Quotes verse 9:12 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book III, Chapter XVII)

    … all things predicted by the Lord, and who in this respect strive to follow the footprints of the Lord's passion, having become martyrs of the suffering One; these we do also enrol with the martyrs themselves. For, when inquisition shall be made for their blood, and they shall attain to glory, then all shall be confounded by Christ, who have …

  5. Quotes verse 9:18 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XIV, Chapter 9)

    … shall exist in that most imperturbable security of perpetual and blissful delights, then the expression, "The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever," must be taken in the same sense as that other, "The patience of the poor shall not perish for ever."
