7 Entonces Jesús llegando, los tocó, y dijo: Levantaos, y no temáis.
10 Και ηρώτησαν αυτόν οι μαθηταί αυτού, λέγοντες· Διά τι λοιπόν λέγουσιν οι γραμματείς ότι πρέπει να έλθη ο Ηλίας πρώτον;
19 Τότε προσελθόντες οι μαθηταί προς τον Ιησούν κατ' ιδίαν, είπον· Διά τι ημείς δεν ηδυνήθημεν να εκβάλωμεν αυτό;
19 Entonces, llegándose los discípulos á Jesús, aparte, dijeron: ¿Por qué nosotros no lo pudimos echar fuera?
24 Ότε δε ήλθον εις την Καπερναούμ, προσήλθον προς τον Πέτρον οι λαμβάνοντες τα δίδραχμα και είπον· Ο διδάσκαλός σας δεν πληρόνει τα δίδραχμα;
25 Λέγει, Ναι. Και ότε εισήλθεν εις την οικίαν, προέλαβεν αυτόν ο Ιησούς λέγων· Τι σοι φαίνεται, Σίμων; οι βασιλείς της γης από τίνων λαμβάνουσι φόρους ή δασμόν; από των υιών αυτών ή από των ξένων;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

    We must now look into and treat of that vision which the Lord showed on the mount. For it is this of which He had said, "Verily I say unto you, there be some standing here which shall not taste of death till they see the Son of Man in His Kingdom." Then began the passage which has just been …
