VUL Clementine Vulgate
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
1 Et post dies sex assumit Jesus Petrum, et Jacobum, et Joannem fratrem ejus, et ducit illos in montem excelsum seorsum:
5 Adhuc eo loquente, ecce nubes lucida obumbravit eos.
6 Et audientes discipuli ceciderunt in faciem suam, et timuerunt valde.
7 Et accessit Jesus, et tetigit eos: dixitque eis: Surgite, et nolite timere.
7 Entonces Jesús llegando, los tocó, y dijo: Levantaos, y no temáis.
8 Levantes autem oculos suos, neminem viderunt, nisi solum Jesum.
11 At ille respondens, ait eis: Elias quidem venturus est, et restituet omnia.
Afferte huc illum ad me.
19 Dixit illis Jesus: Propter incredulitatem vestram.
24 Ait: Etiam. Et cum intrasset in domum, prævenit eum Jesus, dicens: Quid tibi videtur Simon? reges terræ a quibus accipiunt tributum vel censum? a filiis suis, an ab alienis?

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).
