3 Y respondiendo Jesús les dijo: ¿Ni aun esto habéis leído, qué hizo David cuando tuvo hambre, él, y los que con él estaban;
8 A On znaše pomisli njihove, i reče čoveku koji imaše suvu ruku: Ustani i stani na sredu. A on ustade i stade.
9 A Isus reče im: Da vas zapitam: Šta valja u subotu činiti, dobro ili zlo? Održati dušu ili pogubiti? A oni ćutahu.
10 I pogledavši na sve njih reče mu: Pruži ruku svoju. A on učini tako; i ruka posta zdrava kao i druga.
14 Simona, koga nazva Petrom, i Andriju brata njegovog, Jakova i Jovana, Filipa i Vartolomija,
15 Mateja i Tomu, Jakova Alfejevog i Simona prozvanog Zilota,
16 Judu Jakovljevog, i Judu Iskariotskog, koji Ga i izdade.
17 Y descendió con ellos, y se paró en un lugar llano, y la compañía de sus discípulos, y una grande multitud de pueblo de toda Judea y de Jerusalem, y de la costa de Tiro y de Sidón, que habían venido á oirle, y para ser sanados de sus enfermedades;
22 Blago vama kad na vas ljudi omrznu i kad vas rastave i osramote, i razglase ime vaše kao zlo Sina radi čovečijeg.
27 Ali vama kažem koji slušate: ljubite neprijatelje svoje, dobro činite onima koji na vas mrze;
27 Mas á vosotros los que oís, digo: Amad á vuestros enemigos, haced bien á los que os aborrecen;
31 I kako hoćete da čine vama ljudi činite i vi njima onako.
Jer i grešnici ljube one koji njih ljube.
37 No juzguéis, y no seréis juzgados: no condenéis, y no seréis condenados: perdonad, y seréis perdonados.
38 Dajte, i daće vam se: meru dobru i nabijenu i stresenu i prepunu daće vam u naručje vaše.
39 I kaza im priču: Može li slepac slepca voditi?
41 A zašto vidiš trun u oku brata svog, a brvna u svom oku ne osećaš?
43 Jer nema drveta dobrog da rađa zao rod; niti drveta zlog da rađa dobar rod.
45 dobar čovek iz dobre kleti srca svog iznosi dobro, a zao čovek iz zle kleti srca svog iznosi zlo, jer usta njegova govore od suviška srca.
46 A što me zovete: Gospode! Gospode!

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 6:37 Polycarp of Smyrna, Epistle to the Philippians (The Epistle of Polycarp to the Philippians)

… false witness; "not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing," or blow for blow, or cursing for cursing, but being mindful of what the Lord said in His teaching: "Judge not, that ye be not judged; forgive, and it shall be forgiven unto you; be merciful, that ye may obtain mercy; with what measure ye mete, it shall be …

But I say unto you, Pray for your enemies, and love them that hate you, and bless them that curse you, and pray for them that despitefully use you." And that we should communicate to the needy, and do nothing for glory, He said, "Give to him that asketh, and from him that would borrow turn not away; for if …

The production, again, of the Duodecad of the Æons, is indicated by the fact that the Lord was twelve years of age when He disputed with the teachers of the law, and by the election of the apostles, for of these there were twelve. The other eighteen Æons are made manifest in this way: that the Lord, [according to them,] …

This takes place now, since He has spoken, first by the mouth of his forerunner John, and afterward by His own mouth, saying, "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
