VUL Clementine Vulgate
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
3 Y respondiendo Jesús les dijo: ¿Ni aun esto habéis leído, qué hizo David cuando tuvo hambre, él, y los que con él estaban;
9 Ait autem ad illos Jesus: Interrogo vos si licet sabbatis benefacere, an male: animam salvam facere, an perdere?
10 Et circumspectis omnibus dixit homini: Extende manum tuam.
14 Simonem, quem cognominavit Petrum, et Andream fratrem ejus, Jacobum, et Joannem, Philippum, et Bartholomæum,
17 Y descendió con ellos, y se paró en un lugar llano, y la compañía de sus discípulos, y una grande multitud de pueblo de toda Judea y de Jerusalem, y de la costa de Tiro y de Sidón, que habían venido á oirle, y para ser sanados de sus enfermedades;
20 Et ipse elevatis oculis in discipulis suis, dicebat: Beati pauperes, quia vestrum est regnum Dei.
24 Verumtamen væ vobis divitibus, quia habetis consolationem vestram.
27 Mas á vosotros los que oís, digo: Amad á vuestros enemigos, haced bien á los que os aborrecen;
34 Et si mutuum dederitis his a quibus speratis recipere, quæ gratia est vobis? nam et peccatores peccatoribus fœnerantur, ut recipiant æqualia.
37 No juzguéis, y no seréis juzgados: no condenéis, y no seréis condenados: perdonad, y seréis perdonados.
38 Date, et dabitur vobis: mensuram bonam, et confertam, et coagitatam, et supereffluentem dabunt in sinum vestrum. Eadem quippe mensura, qua mensi fueritis, remetietur vobis.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 6:37 Polycarp of Smyrna, Epistle to the Philippians (The Epistle of Polycarp to the Philippians)

… false witness; "not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing," or blow for blow, or cursing for cursing, but being mindful of what the Lord said in His teaching: "Judge not, that ye be not judged; forgive, and it shall be forgiven unto you; be merciful, that ye may obtain mercy; with what measure ye mete, it shall be …

The production, again, of the Duodecad of the Æons, is indicated by the fact that the Lord was twelve years of age when He disputed with the teachers of the law, and by the election of the apostles, for of these there were twelve. The other eighteen Æons are made manifest in this way: that the Lord, [according to them,] …

This takes place now, since He has spoken, first by the mouth of his forerunner John, and afterward by His own mouth, saying, "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
