2 Nemoj odvratiti lice svoje od mene; u dan kad sam u nevolji prigni k meni uho svoje, u dan kad Te prizivam, pohitaj, usliši me.
9 Jedem pepeo kao hleb, i piće svoje rastvaram suzama.
10 Od gneva Tvog i srdnje Tvoje; jer podigavši me bacio si me.
10 A causa de tu enojo y de tu ira; pues me alzaste, y me has arrojado.
12 A Ti, Gospode, ostaješ doveka, i spomen Tvoj od kolena do kolena.
13 Ti ćeš ustati, smilovaćeš se na Sion, jer je vreme smilovati se na nj, jer je došlo vreme;
14 Jer slugama Tvojim omile i kamenje njegovo, i prah njegov žale.
15 Tada će se neznabošci bojati imena Gospodnjeg, i svi carevi zemaljski slave Njegove;
15 Entonces temerán las gentes el nombre de Jehová, y todos los reyes de la tierra tu gloria;
16 Jer će Gospod sazidati Sion, i javiti se u slavi svojoj;
16 Por cuanto Jehová habrá edificado á Sión, y en su gloria será visto;
18 Napisaće se ovo potonjem rodu, i narod nanovo stvoren hvaliće Gospoda.
20 Da čuje uzdisanje sužnjevo, i odreši sinove smrtne;
20 Para oir el gemido de los presos, para soltar á los sentenciados á muerte;
22 Kad se skupe narodi i carstva da služe Gospodu.
Nemoj me uzeti u polovini dana mojih.
25 Davno si postavio zemlju, i nebesa su delo ruku Tvojih.
27 Ali Ti si taj isti i godine Tvoje neće isteći.
28 Sinovi će sluga Tvojih živeti, i seme će se njihovo utvrditi pred licem Tvojim.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm CI)

    In this Psalm, we ought to seek in the whole body of it what we find in the first verse: "Mercy and judgment will I sing unto Thee, O Lord" (ver. 1).

  2. Quotes verse 102:25–28 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book IV, Preface)

    The children of Thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established for ever;" pointing out plainly what things they are that pass away, and who it is that doth endure for ever--God, together with His servants.

  3. Quotes verse 102:20 Augustine of Hippo, Confessions (Book III, Chapters VIII–XI)

    So, then, by a humble piety we return to Thee; and thou purgest us from our evil customs, and art merciful unto the sins of those who confess unto Thee, and dost "hear the groaning of the prisoner," and dost loosen us from those fetters which we have forged for ourselves, if we lift not up against Thee the horns …

  4. Quotes verse 102:3 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily II)

    On this account also one hath said, "My days have failed like smoke." He indeed was referring to their shortness of duration, and to their unsubstantial nature, but I would say that we should take what is said, not in this sense alone, but also as to their turbid character.

  5. Quotes verse 102:25 Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures (Lecture XV)

    Hear David the Prophet saying, Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Thy hands; they shall perish, but Thou remainest.
