1 La palabra del Señor vino a Sofonías, hijo de Cusi, hijo de Gedalías, hijo de Amarías, hijo de Ezequías, en los días de Josías, hijo de Amón, rey de Judá.
1 Yahweh’s word which came to Zephaniah, the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah.
2 «Quitaré todo de la faz de la tierra —dice el Señor—.
2 I will utterly sweep away everything from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh.
3 Quitaré a los seres humanos y a los animales; quitaré las aves del cielo y los peces del mar. Haré caer a los malhechores y eliminaré a los seres humanos de la faz de la tierra —dice el Señor—.
3 I will sweep away man and animal. I will sweep away the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and the heaps of rubble with the wicked. I will cut off man from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh.
4 Extenderé mi mano contra Judá y contra todos los habitantes de Jerusalén. Quitaré de este lugar el nombre de Baal y el nombre de los falsos sacerdotes.
4 I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place—the name of the idolatrous and pagan priests,
5 También quitaré a quienes adoran al ejército del cielo en las azoteas y a quienes adoran al Señor pero juran por Milcom,
5 those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam,
6 a quienes han dejado de seguir al Señor y a quienes no han orado al Señor ni han buscado su dirección».
6 those who have turned back from following Yahweh, and those who haven’t sought Yahweh nor inquired after him.
7 Guarden silencio ante el Señor Dios, pues el día del Señor está cerca. El Señor ha preparado una ofrenda y ha hecho santos a sus invitados.
7 Be silent at the presence of the Lord Yahweh, for the day of Yahweh is at hand. For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice. He has consecrated his guests.
8 «El día de la ofrenda del Señor castigaré a los gobernantes, a los hijos del rey y a todos los que llevan túnicas de tierras extranjeras.
8 It will happen in the day of Yahweh’s sacrifice that I will punish the princes, the king’s sons, and all those who are clothed with foreign clothing.
9 Ese día castigaré a todos los que saltan por encima del umbral y llenan la casa de su amo de violencia y engaño.
9 In that day, I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit.
10 Ese día —dice el Señor— se oirá un grito desde la puerta del Pescado, un clamor desde el barrio nuevo, un gran estruendo desde las colinas y gritos de dolor de los habitantes de la Hondonada,
10 In that day, says Yahweh, there will be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills.
11 por la caída de todo el pueblo de Canaán. Todos los que estaban cargados de plata han sido eliminados.
11 Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the people of Canaan are undone! All those who were loaded with silver are cut off.
12 En ese tiempo buscaré por toda Jerusalén con lámparas. Castigaré a los hombres que se han vuelto como vino guardado demasiado tiempo y que se dicen: “El Señor no hará el bien ni hará el mal”.
12 It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, “Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.”
13 Sus riquezas les serán quitadas por la fuerza y sus casas quedarán en ruinas. Seguirán construyendo casas, pero nunca vivirán en ellas; plantarán viñedos, pero no beberán su vino».
13 Their wealth will become a plunder, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but won’t inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but won’t drink their wine.
14 El gran día del Señor está cerca, está cerca y viene muy rápido. El amargo día del Señor está cerca; llega más rápido que un guerrero.
14 The great day of Yahweh is near. It is near and hurries greatly, the voice of the day of Yahweh. The mighty man cries there bitterly.
15 Ese día será un día de ira, un día de angustia y tristeza, un día de ruina y destrucción, un día de noche oscura y sombra profunda, un día de nubes y oscuridad espesa.
15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,
16 Será un día de sonido de cuerno y de grito de guerra contra las ciudades amuralladas y las torres altas.
16 a day of the trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high battlements.
17 «Enviaré angustia a los seres humanos, de modo que anden como ciegos, porque han hecho el mal contra el Señor. Su sangre será derramada como polvo, y su fuerza como desechos».
17 I will bring such distress on men that they will walk like blind men because they have sinned against Yahweh. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
18 Ni su plata ni su oro podrán salvarlos en el día de la ira del Señor. Toda la tierra arderá en el fuego de su amarga ira, pues él acabará de pronto con todos sus habitantes.
18 Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Yahweh’s wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.
