LXX Brenton's Greek Septuagint
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
4 Εἰ εἰς κρίσεις καὶ μάχας νηστεύετε, καὶ τύπτετε πυγμαῖς ταπεινὸν, ἱνατί μοι νηστεύετε ὡς σήμερον, ἀκουσθῆναι ἐν κραυγῇ τὴν φωνὴν ὑμῶν;
9 Entonces invocarás, y oirte ha Jehová; clamarás, y dirá él: Heme aquí. Si quitares de en medio de ti el yugo, el extender el dedo, y hablar vanidad;
10 Y si derramares tu alma al hambriento, y saciares el alma afligida, en las tinieblas nacerá tu luz, y tu oscuridad será como el medio día;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

Let us break our bread to the hungry, and let us bring the houseless poor to our house. Let us clothe the naked, and despise not those of our own flesh.
