2 Onde Mu, pak, zgotoviše večeru, i Marta služaše, a i Lazar seđaše s njim za trpezom;
3 a Marija uzevši litru pravog nardovog mnogocenog mira pomaza noge Isusove, i otre kosom svojom noge Njegove; a kuća se napuni mirisa od mira.
7 A Isus reče: Ne dirajte u nju; ona je to dohranila za dan mog pogreba;
7 Entonces Jesús dijo: Déjala: para el día de mi sepultura ha guardado esto;
8 jer siromahe svagda imate sa sobom, a mene nemate svagda.
10 A glavari sveštenički dogovoriše se da i Lazara ubiju;
10 Consultaron asimismo los príncipes de los sacerdotes, de matar también á Lázaro;
11 jer mnogi njega radi iđahu iz Judeje i verovahu Isusa.
18 Zato Ga i srete narod, jer čuše da On učini ovo čudo.
18 Por lo cual también había venido la gente á recibirle, porque había oído que él había hecho esta señal;
22 Dođe Filip i kaza Andriji, a Andrija i Filip opet kazaše Isusu.
24 Zaista, zaista vam kažem: Ako zrno pšenično padnuvši na zemlju ne umre, ono jedno ostane; ako li umre mnogo roda rodi;
26 Ko meni služi, za mnom nek ide, i gde sam ja onde i sluga moj nek bude; i ko meni služi onog će poštovati Otac moj.
Proslavi ime svoje! Tada glas dođe s neba: I proslavio sam i opet ću proslaviti.
28 Padre, glorifica tu nombre.
29 A kad ču narod koji stajaše, govorahu: Grom zagrmi; a drugi govorahu: Anđeo mu govori.
32 I kad ja budem podignut od zemlje, sve ću privući k sebi.
33 A ovo govoraše da pokaže kakvom će smrti umreti.
36 Dok videlo imate verujte videlo, da budete sinovi videla.
37 Ako je i činio tolika čudesa pred njima, opet Ga ne verovahu;
39 Zato ne mogahu verovati, jer opet reče Isaija:
41 Ovo reče Isaija kad vide slavu Njegovu i govori za Njega.
42 Ali opet i od knezova mnogi Ga verovaše; nego radi fariseja ne priznavahu, da ne bi bili izgnani iz zbornice;
44 A Isus povika i reče: Ko mene veruje ne veruje mene, nego Onog koji me posla;
44 Mas Jesús clamó y dijo: El que cree en mí, no cree en mí, sino en el que me envió;
45 i ko vidi mene, vidi Onog koji me posla.
48 Koji se odreče mene, i ne prima reči moje, ima sebi sudiju: reč koju ja govorih ona će mu suditi u poslednji dan;
49 jer ja od sebe ne govorih, nego Otac koji me posla On mi dade zapovest šta ću kazati i šta ću govoriti.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 12:44 Augustine of Hippo, Sermons on Selected Lessons of the New Testament (Sermon XC)

    What is it, Brethren, which we have heard the Lord saying, "He that believeth on Me, believeth not on Me, but on Him that sent Me"?

  2. Commentary 12:12 Augustine of Hippo, Tractates on the Gospel of John (Chapter XII — 12-26)

    After our Lord's raising of one to life, who had been four days dead, to the utter amazement of the Jews, some of whom believed on seeing it, and others perished in their envy, because of that sweet savor which is unto life to some, and to others unto death; after He had sat down to meat with Lazarus--the one …
