PT1904 Patriarchal Text 1904 (accented, eBible edition)
1 A Savle još dišući pretnjom i smrću na učenike Gospodnje pristupi k poglavaru svešteničkom,
3 A kad beše na putu i dođe blizu Damaska, ujedanput obasja ga svetlost s neba,
4 i padnuvši na zemlju ču glas gde mu govori: Savle! Savle! Zašto me goniš?
4 καὶ πεσὼν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἤκουσε φωνὴν λέγουσαν αὐτῷ· Σαοὺλ Σαούλ, τί με διώκεις;
5 A on reče: Ko si Ti, Gospode? A Gospod reče: Ja sam Isus, kog ti goniš: teško ti je protivu bodila praćati se.
6 A on drhćući od straha reče: Gospode!
9 I beše tri dana slep, i ne jede, niti pi.
10 A u Damasku beše jedan učenik, po imenu Ananija, i reče mu Gospod u utvari: Ananija! A on reče: Evo me, Gospode!
13 A Ananija odgovori: Gospode! Ja čuh od mnogih za tog čoveka kolika zla počini svetima Tvojim u Jerusalimu;
15 A Gospod mu reče: Idi, jer mi je on sud izbrani da iznese ime moje pred neznabošce i careve i sinove Izrailjeve.
16 A ja ću mu pokazati koliko mu valja postradati za ime moje.
21 ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες οἱ ἀκούοντες καὶ ἔλεγον· οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ πορθήσας ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ τοὺς ἐπικαλουμένους τὸ ὄνομα τοῦτο, καὶ ὧδε εἰς τοῦτο ἐλήλυθεν, ἵνα δεδεμένους αὐτοὺς ἀγάγῃ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς;
24 Ali Savle doznade njihov dogovor; a oni čuvahu vrata dan i noć da bi ga ubili;
25 a učenici ga uzeše noću i spustiše preko zida u kotarici.
27 A Varnava ga uze i dovede k apostolima, i kaza im kako na putu vide Gospoda, i kako mu govori, i kako u Damasku slobodno propoveda ime Isusovo.
28 I beše s njima i ulazi u Jerusalim i izlazi i slobodno propovedaše ime Gospoda Isusa.
30 A kad razumeše braća, svedoše ga u Ćesariju, i otpustiše ga u Tars.
34 I reče mu Petar: Eneja! Isceljuje te Isus Hristos, ustani i prostri sam sebi. I odmah usta.
Ustani. A ona otvori oči svoje, i videvši Petra sede.
41 Petar pak pruživši joj ruku podiže je; i dozvavši svete i udovice pokaza je živu.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 9:10 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Acts of the Apostles (Homily XX)

What may be the reason that He neither drew any one of high authority and importance, nor caused such to be forthcoming for the purpose of instructing Paul?

  2. Quotes verse 9:20 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book III, Chapter XII)

… persecuting His disciples, he persecuted his own Lord, and sent Ananias to him that he might recover his sight, and be baptized--"preached," it is said, "Jesus in the synagogues at Damascus, with all freedom of speech, that this is the Son of God, the Christ." This is the mystery which he says was made known to him by revelation, that …
