2 I pristupivši fariseji upitaše Ga kušajući: Može li čovek pustiti ženu?
3 A On odgovarajući reče im: Šta vam zapoveda Mojsije?
5 I odgovarajući Isus reče im: Po tvrđi vašeg srca napisa vam on zapovest ovu.
5 Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Por la dureza de vuestro corazón os escribió este mandamiento;
6 A u početku stvorenja, muža i ženu, stvorio ih je Bog.
7 Zato ostaviće čovek oca svog i majku i prilepiće se k ženi svojoj,
8 i budu dvoje jedno telo.
10 I u kući opet zapitaše Ga za to učenici Njegovi.
11 I reče im: Koji pusti ženu i oženi se drugom, čini preljubu na njoj.
14 A Isus videvši rasrdi se i reče im: Pustite decu neka dolaze k meni, i ne branite im; jer je takvih carstvo Božje.
16 I zagrlivši ih metnu na njih ruke te ih blagoslovi.
17 I kad izađe na put, pritrča neko, i kleknuvši na kolena pred Njim pitaše Ga: Učitelju blagi!
18 A Isus reče mu: Što me zoveš blagim? Niko nije blag osim jednog Boga.
18 Y Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me dices bueno? Ninguno hay bueno, sino [sólo] uno, Dios.
19 Zapovesti znaš: ne čini preljube; ne ubij; ne ukradi; ne svedoči lažno; ne čini nepravde nikome; poštuj oca svog i mater.
19 Los mandamientos sabes: No adulteres: No mates: No hurtes: No digas falso testimonio: No defraudes: Honra á tu padre y á tu madre.
20 A on odgovarajući reče Mu: Učitelju!
22 A on posta zlovoljan od ove reči, i ode žalostan; jer beše vrlo bogat.
23 I pogledavši Isus reče učenicima svojim: Kako je teško bogatima ući u carstvo nebesko!
A Isus opet odgovarajući reče im: Deco!
28 A Petar Mu poče govoriti: Eto mi smo ostavili sve, i za Tobom idemo.
28 Entonces Pedro comenzó á decirle: He aquí, nosotros hemos dejado todas las cosas, y te hemos seguido.
31 Empero muchos primeros serán postreros, y postreros primeros.
33 Evo idemo u Jerusalim, i Sin čovečji predaće se glavarima svešteničkim i književnicima i osudiće Ga na smrt, i predaće Ga neznabošcima;
34 i narugaće Mu se, i biće Ga, i popljuvaće Ga, i ubiće Ga, i treći dan ustaće.
35 I pred Njega dođoše Jakov i Jovan, sinovi Zevedejevi, govoreći: Učitelju!
36 A On im reče: Šta hoćete da vam učinim?
37 A oni Mu rekoše: Daj nam da sednemo jedan s desne strane Tebi, a drugi s leve, u slavi Tvojoj.
39 A oni Mu rekoše: Možemo. A Isus reče im: Čašu, dakle, koju ja pijem ispićete; i krštenjem kojim se ja krštavam krstićete se;
41 I čuvši to desetorica počeše se srditi na Jakova i na Jovana.
42 A Isus dozvavši ih reče im: Znate da knezovi narodni vladaju narodom i poglavari njegovi upravljaju njim.
43 Mas no será así entre vosotros: antes cualquiera que quisiere hacerse grande entre vosotros, será vuestro servidor;
46 I dođoše u Jerihon. I kad izlažaše iz Jerihona, On i učenici Njegovi i narod mnogi, sin Timejev, Vartimej slepi, seđaše kraj puta i prošaše.
Pomiluj me!
48 I prećahu mu mnogi da ućuti, a on još više vikaše: Sine Davidov! Pomiluj me!
50 A on zbacivši sa sebe haljine svoje, ustade i dođe k Isusu.
51 I odgovarajući reče mu Isus: Šta hoćeš da ti učinim? A slepi reče Mu: Ravuni!
52 A Isus reče mu: Idi, vera tvoja pomože ti. I odmah progleda, i ode putem za Isusom.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 10:38 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book I, Chapters XX–XXI)

… added this redemption to the sons of Zebedee, when their mother asked that they might sit, the one on His right hand, and the other on His left, in His kingdom, saying, "Can ye be baptized with the baptism which I shall be baptized with?" Paul, too, they declare, has often set forth, in express terms, the redemption which is …
