1 For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David. Yahweh, don’t rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am faint. Yahweh, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
3 Και η ψυχή μου εταράχθη σφόδρα· αλλά συ, Κύριε, έως πότε;
3 My soul is also in great anguish. But you, Yahweh—how long?
4 Return, Yahweh. Deliver my soul, and save me for your loving kindness’ sake.
5 Διότι εν τω θανάτω δεν υπάρχει ενθύμησις περί σού· εν τω άδη τις θέλει σε δοξολογήσει;
5 For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks?
6 I am weary with my groaning. Every night I flood my bed. I drench my couch with my tears.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for Yahweh has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 Yahweh has heard my supplication. Yahweh accepts my prayer.
10 May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed. They shall turn back, they shall be disgraced suddenly.

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm VI)

    "Of the eighth," seems here obscure. For the rest of this title is more clear. Now it has seemed to some to intimate the day of judgment, that is, the time of the coming of our Lord, when He will come to judge the quick and dead.

  2. Cita 6:3 Augustine of Hippo, Confessions (Book VIII, Chapter XI)

    And, not indeed in these words, yet to this effect, spake I much unto Thee,--"But Thou, O Lord, how long?" "How long, Lord?

  3. Cita 6:2 Augustine of Hippo, Confessions (Book X, Chapters XXXII–XXXIV)

  4. Cita 6:5 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XIII, Chapters 10–11)

    So that verse, "For in death there is no remembrance of thee." For until the resurrection men are justly said to be in death; as every one is said to be in sleep till he awakes.
