VUL Clementine Vulgate
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
1 [Utinam dirumperes cælos, et descenderes; a facie tua montes defluerent;
2 sicut exustio ignis tabescerent, aquæ arderent igni: ut notum fieret nomen tuum inimicis tuis; a facie tua gentes turbarentur.
5 Occurristi lætanti, et facienti justitiam; in viis tuis recordabuntur tui. Ecce tu iratus es, et peccavimus; in ipsis fuimus semper, et salvabimur.
Abscondisti faciem tuam a nobis, et allisisti nos in manu iniquitatis nostræ.
10 Civitas Sancti tui facta est deserta, Sion deserta facta est, Jerusalem desolata est.
12 Numquid super his continebis te, Domine; tacebis, et affliges nos vehementer?]

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).
