Vamvas Modern Greek Bible: Vamvas (1850)
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
3 Y yendo por el camino, aconteció que llegando cerca de Damasco, súbitamente le cercó un resplandor de luz del cielo;
4 και πεσών επί την γην, ήκουσε φωνήν λέγουσαν προς αυτόν· Σαούλ, Σαούλ, τι με διώκεις;
8 Entonces Saulo se levantó de tierra, y abriendo los ojos, no veía á nadie: así que, llevándole por la mano, metiéronle en Damasco;
11 Y el Señor le [dijo]: Levántate, y ve á la calle que se llama la Derecha, y busca en casa de Judas á uno llamado Saulo, de Tarso: porque he aquí, él ora;
21 Εξεπλήττοντο δε πάντες οι ακούοντες και έλεγον· Δεν είναι ούτος, όστις εξωλόθρευσεν εν Ιερουσαλήμ τους επικαλουμένους το όνομα τούτο και εδώ διά τούτο είχεν ελθεί διά να φέρη αυτούς δεδεμένους προς τους αρχιερείς;
23 Y como pasaron muchos días, los Judíos hicieron entre sí consejo de matarle;
28 Y entraba y salía con ellos en Jerusalem;
34 Y le dijo Pedro: Eneas, Jesucristo te sana; levántate, y hazte tu cama. Y luego se levantó.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 9:10 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Acts of the Apostles (Homily XX)

    What may be the reason that He neither drew any one of high authority and importance, nor caused such to be forthcoming for the purpose of instructing Paul?

  2. Quotes verse 9:20 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book III, Chapter XII)

    … persecuting His disciples, he persecuted his own Lord, and sent Ananias to him that he might recover his sight, and be baptized--"preached," it is said, "Jesus in the synagogues at Damascus, with all freedom of speech, that this is the Son of God, the Christ." This is the mystery which he says was made known to him by revelation, that …

  4. Quotes verse 9:4 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily XXIX)

    See, for example, how He Himself, the insulted one, discourses with us, both in the Old Testament, and in the New; in the one saying, "O my people, what have I done unto thee?" in the other, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me." And Paul too bids, "In meekness instruct those that oppose themselves." And Christ again, when His disciples …
