VUL Clementine Vulgate
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
1 Y COMO se cumplieron los días de Pentecostés, estaban todos unánimes juntos;
2 Y de repente vino un estruendo del cielo como de un viento recio que corría, el cual hinchió toda la casa donde estaban sentados;
8 et quomodo nos audivimus unusquisque linguam nostram in qua nati sumus?
11 Judæi quoque, et Proselyti, Cretes, et Arabes: audivimus eos loquentes nostris linguis magnalia Dei.
15 Porque éstos no están borrachos, como vosotros pensáis, siendo la hora tercia del día;
19 et dabo prodigia in cælo sursum, et signa in terra deorsum, sanguinem, et ignem, et vaporem fumi:
20 sol convertetur in tenebras, et luna in sanguinem, antequam veniat dies Domini magnus et manifestus.
20 El sol se volverá en tinieblas, y la luna en sangre, antes que venga el día del Señor, grande y manifiesto;
21 Et erit: omnis quicumque invocaverit nomen Domini, salvus erit.]
22 Viri Israëlitæ, audite verba hæc: Jesum Nazarenum, virum approbatum a Deo in vobis, virtutibus, et prodigiis, et signis, quæ fecit Deus per illum in medio vestri, sicut et vos scitis:
22 Varones Israelitas, oid estas palabras: Jesús Nazareno, varón aprobado de Dios entre vosotros en maravillas y prodigios y señales, que Dios hizo por él en medio de vosotros, como también vosotros sabéis;
23 A éste, entregado por determinado consejo y providencia de Dios, prendisteis y matasteis por manos de los inicuos, crucificándole;
25 David enim dicit in eum: [Providebam Dominum in conspectu meo semper: quoniam a dextris est mihi, ne commovear:
26 Por lo cual mi corazón se alegró, y gozóse mi lengua; y aun mi carne descansará en esperanza;
28 Notas mihi fecisti vias vitæ: et replebis me jucunditate cum facie tua.]
30 Empero siendo profeta, y sabiendo que con juramento le había Dios jurado que del fruto de su lomo, cuanto á la carne, levantaría al Cristo que se sentaría sobre su trono;
33 Dextera igitur Dei exaltatus, et promissione Spiritus Sancti accepta a Patre, effudit hunc, quem vos videtis et auditis.
35 donec ponam inimicos tuos scabellum pedum tuorum.]
36 Certissime sciat ergo omnis domus Israël, quia et Dominum eum et Christum fecit Deus hunc Jesum, quem vos crucifixistis.
44 Y todos los que creían estaban juntos; y tenían todas las cosas comunes;
45 Possessiones et substantias vendebant, et dividebant illa omnibus, prout cuique opus erat.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 2:1 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Acts of the Apostles (Homily IV)

    Dost thou perceive the type? What is this Pentecost? The time when the sickle was to be put to the harvest, and the ingathering was made. See now the reality, when the time was come to put in the sickle of the word: for here, as the sickle, keen-edged, came the Spirit down.
